Meeting Minutes
Present: Marko Zaninovich, Billie Jo Rice, Jeff Bell, Derek Yurosek, Zav Dadabhoy
Absent: None

- Call to Order – Meeting called to order by Marko Zaninovich at 3:06 pm.
- Roll Call – Courtney Carter took roll and quorum was confirmed.
- Public Comments Statement – The public comments statement was read by Marko Zaninovich. There were no public comments received by the secretary.
- Approval of Meeting Minutes from November 16, 2021 – Motion – Marko Zaninovich asked if everyone received the last meeting’s minutes and if there were any comments or rectifications to be made to the minutes. All were in favor to approve the November 16, 2021 meeting minutes and none opposed. Meeting minutes from November 16, 2021, are APPROVED.
- Board of Directors Nomination Timeline – Cheryl Scott discussed the board member terms that are expiring in June 2022. Ten board member terms are expiring. Six members have already stated an interest in being re-nominated. Cheryl and Marko will contact the rest of the board members. Cheryl stated that 19 out of 25 board members are community representatives. If any members step back from the board, the Nomination Committee will identify potential replacements for election in May.
- Update on Sterling Silver – Sterling Silver is on March 19, 2022. It was sold out very early on through sponsorships and there is now a waitlist. The theme for Sterling Silver will be “Roaring 20’s” and it will be live-streamed on KGET, with an additional one-hour show airing on the following Saturday. $102,000 has been brought in by sponsorships and tables. Costs are estimated to be around $60,000. Marko asked Cheryl to give the committee a five-year history of total expenses and revenues of past Sterling Silver Dinners. Derek Yurosek commented on the great contribution of the Foundation staff and committee to make this event possible.
- Report on BC Alumni Hall of Fame – Cheryl Scott shared that the Bakersfield College Foundation is teaming up with the Alumni Association to bring back the Alumni Hall of Fame which will take place on June 23, 2022 at Seven Oaks Country Club. Nominations open on February 21, 2022, and close on March 18, 2022. BC alums who have made a significant impact and positive influence will be honored at this event. Cheryl explained the difference between this event and the BC Athletics Hall of Fame. The announcement for the nominated inductees will be sometime in April. It is estimated there will be 3-5 nominees.
- Planned Giving Program – Cheryl Scott and Susan Hubbell participated in a webinar with Crescendo, a company that provides a more coordinated marketing effort on planned giving. Their services cost $3,500 a year. Staff will meet with Crescendo representatives at the end of the month. Marko asked for a discussion to be made after the meeting with Crescendo for more details and information.
- Update from Interim President – Zav Dadabhoy stated that he did not have anything in particular to report and would make a formal report at the full board meeting.
- Executive Director’s Report – Cheryl discussed the events for the rest of the year. Renegade Promenade plans have grown bigger, into a community festival that will spotlight all programs on campus and becoming an Alumni and Family Day. Due to Covid, this event was moved to October 15, 2022. Since Renegade Promenade was moved to the Fall, the Alumni Association decided to do a smaller event in April, which will possibly take place at Temblor Brewing Company.
- Other Business / Adjournment of Meeting – Zav Dadabhoy shared that Mike Giacomini will be acting as the districtwide CFO. Jeff Bell asked if the Donor Dinner will be reinstated again this year. Zav responded by saying there are no other green lights at the moment for large events on campus besides Sterling Silver. Marko Zaninovich asked if there was an opportunity to connect donors with their scholarship recipients. Zav Dadabhoy proposed to discuss on-campus events after Covid numbers continue to improve. Billie Jo Rice shared that Bakersfield College has made it to the second round of the Aspen Award. Marko Zaninovich thanked all of the Executive Committee and adjourned the meeting at 3:50 pm.
